| Ducks Out of Water
Grimaud Farms and Sonoma Foie Gras
In September of 2000, Viva! USA began a campaign to reveal the
truth about the duck industry. We investigated a number of duck
farms in the United States (link to investigations) , including
Maple Leaf Farms and Grimaud Farms. As part of our campaign, we
worked to educate grocery stores that sell duck meat (link to campaign)
.
We discovered that ducks sold for their meat are kept in filthy
conditions, have the tips of their bills cut off, and are deprived
of access to water except for drinking.
During our investigation of Grimaud Farms, we discovered that
this company was tied to the foie gras industry.
Sonoma Foie Gras is a brand name for Grimaud Farms. Grimaud Farms
provides ducks to Sonoma Foie Gras, slaughters the ducks, and distributes
them. Investigators who examined facilities at Sonoma Foie Gras
reported that Moulard ducklings had the tips of their bills cut
off. We know that Grimaud Farms uses scissors to cut the tips of
the bills off Muscovy ducks.

the cruelty of force-feeding for foie gras.
