HONEYBAKED PATRONS TO UNDERSTAND THE HORROR
San Francisco, CA.Shoppers picking up their holiday hams at Honeybaked Ham stores will receive something extra this year - an understanding about the lives of the animals that are to become their dinner.
WHERE: Honeybaked Ham, 2190 Geary (& Divisadero)
DATE: Saturday, March 30
TIME: 11:30am to 12:30pm
"Most people are not aware of the tragic lives these animals live before they end up as someone's holiday meal," said lauren Ornelas, spokesperson for Viva! "Our hope is to give people an understanding about the horror behind ham production and encourage them to consider animal-free options to ham for their holiday dinner."
Saturday's leafleting event is part of a national campaign that follows a large-scale investigation of pig farming conducted by Viva!, an international animal rights organization that promotes vegetarianism.
"We hope people will think about the spirit of the holiday season and choose to have a holiday of peace and gentleness rather than contributing to suffering and death," Ornelas stated. "Pigs by nature are gentle, intelligent beings. We are asking people to open their eyes to the animals' suffering, and to extend the spirit of peace and compassion to all living creatures. We hope that after learning the facts, people will not chose ham next year."
Viva!'s USA headquarters is in Davis, CA. Video and extensive report on Viva!'s investigation of the factory farming of pigs can be seen at www.vivausa.org or copies can be obtained by contacting Viva! at (530) 759-8482 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
